Episode 10: Smartphones harm kids. What can parents do?

“We do not inherit the earth from our ancestors. We borrow it from our  children.” [Various]

Sometime in my late teenage years I made a decision to not have children.  I had grown up with a debilitating condition of asthma, which I wished not  to pass on to another human life. Contemporary parenting is thus a  second hand experience for me, mostly through my close friends and  colleagues as they have raised their kids in an increasingly complicated  world.

As a board member in Sapien Labs, I have been distressed to see that  today’s young adults have significantly (3 – 5X) lower mental wellbeing than  older generations. They will form 40% of the global workforce by 2030.  Parents have a pivotal role to play, but this is not their problem to solve  alone. We all need to understand the root causes and come together to  improve the trajectory for future generations.

Tune into Episode 10 of Human Expansion, the fourth and last part of my  conversation with Tara Thiagarajan, Founder of Sapien Labs. Tara shares  key insights from the Global Mind Project, the largest scale study of the  human brain and mind, and also how they are informing her role as a  parent of three teenagers. It will be a worthy investment of 4 minutes of  your time.
